We are a Jersey charity and registered NPO founded in 2014, who believe that good food and nutrition from birth and throughout a child’s life is crucial to successful development, in all areas of their lives.
Our vision is to positively empower and influence the future health of our Islands children and young people, now and for generations to come.
All of our services are either subsidised or provided free of charge to families and are funded entirely by charitable donations and fundraising.
Weekly Meal Service
The Weekly Meal Service allows families to sit down at least once a week to share a nutritious and home-made 2 course meal, together as a family, without the worry of having to cook or spend money on ingredients.
Lets Get Cooking Programme
The Let’s Get Cooking Programme is a cross curricular and progressive skills based programme for primary schools in Jersey, which teaches them how to prepare simple meals from scratch and the fundamentals of nutrition.
Children begin their journey on the programme in Year 1, where they learn simple techniques such as spreading butter to make a sandwich, snipping herbs and measuring using a spoon. By the time children reach Year 6, in their final year at primary school, they are able to confidently use the bridge and claw grip, handle raw chicken while understanding cross contamination, and use heat independently to make a risotto.
By the time they leave for secondary schools, they will have the skills and knowledge to cook 30 recipes from scratch and be armed with all they need to know about making healthy food choices in the future.
The Kitchen Garden Project
The Kitchen Garden Project is an outdoor learning programme teaching children how to plant food from seed and grow it to cook with. It also provides opportunities for children to reconnect with nature and the environment in an educational setting.
Flourish is our school lunch programme providing a delicious and nutritious 2 course lunch to primary school children in Jersey.
Initially as a pilot in Janvrin and Samares Schools, we are confident that given the early success of this pilot we can develop this and deliver Flourish to all primary school children in Jersey by 2025.
